MARPLE, Pa. — The courtyard transformed into a realm of fantasy last Thursday, Oct. 16, as Delaware County Community College hosted its first Fantasy Faire.

The event featured live music, tarot readings, crystals, flower crowns, and costumed attendees dressed as witches and fairies. Students could also get glitter or henna tattoos.

Ruben Villalobos, a video game design major, attended dressed in a warlock and bard costume. “My favorite part was seeing the amount of people who attended the faire,” Villalobos said, “and the music the guest bard sang!”

The music was provided by Thom Fuewellery, who also hosted a game of “Fungeons and Dragons.” Nearby, Scarlet VVitch offered intuitive tarot readings with traditional and oracle decks at a station decorated with crystals.

The faire was organized by Cara Fordenbacher, DCCC’s Athletics and Campus Engagement (ACE) coordinator, who referred to the project as “her baby.” She planned the event with Allyson Gleason, the director of ACE. Fordenbacher said she was inspired after planning her own trip to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire and realizing DCCC could host a similar event.

Students have expressed hopes of turning the faire into an annual tradition, and organizers are already brainstorming for next fall. If the event returns, Fordenbacher hopes to see more student club participation. “I would also like to get more faire food options, so that everyone can enjoy a fun treat while at our Faire!” she said.
